Leasing a car can be a really great option for your situation. But leasing needs to be approach as carefully as buying a car. Getting stuck with a car lease you do not want can be a very bad thing. You also do not want to get taken advantage of in this process. Here are some of the traps you might fall victim to if you are not careful. Make sure you watch out for these things.
You Can Outsmart Them
- Does price matter?
Of course it does! You really need to pay attention to price, just like you would if you were buying the car. You will have the monthly payments still, and that still derives from the standard price. So you really need to look at the overall price. The last thing you want to assume is that there is a standard leasing price with every car, and it really does not matter. Because if something happens during the lease, you may be stuck paying for the entire car.
- Know the fees
You will still be subject to the fees during the lease. But you need to know what they are. The fees actually may be different then normal buying fees. For example, there may be a purchase-option fee. If you want to buy at the end of the lease, then this will come into play. There might be an acquisition fee that starts at the beginning of the lease. So know what fees there are, and how they differ.
- Do you want to terminate early?
This might be more important then you realize. Dealers will claim that they can let you out of the lease whenever you want with no difficulties. Well, fees may not be difficult to them, but it can be really difficult for us. Of course this will probably come with some sort of fee. So know that “not really difficult” probably means difficult for you, not for them.
- Mileage limits
You might set up your lease with an annual mile limit. If you do not want this, then do not accept to anything like it. Assess every situation and every option. Because you may casually agree to an option, but find out a month later that the option you didn’t think much of is coming back to haunt you.
Be Aware and Know What’s Going On
Just know each situation when they arise, and know what and how this affects you. You can find ways to make leases work better for you, do not just let the lease boss you around. A car lease can really be a great thing. But it only becomes great when you pay attention and make sure it is the best thing for you.
