Toyota: The Early Years
In 1933, Kiichiro Toyoda wanted to create automobiles. So he decided to create a department within his father’s company. His father’s company was called Toyota Industries, and had produced a Type A engine in 1934. They soon after had created passenger cars. These cars bare such a resemblance to Chevrolet and Dodge that they actually had interchangeable parts with their American counterparts. The whole Toyota operation was done on behalf and at the encouragement of the Japanese government. They sorely lacked good domestic vehicle production at the time. They had a large nation wide shortage of money, and they were also at war with China.
What Toyota Has Become
- 1973: Due to oil crisis, Toyota makes cars with better fuel economy
- 1982: Toyota Motor Company merges with Toyota Motor Sales to become one single company
- 1989: Launch Lexus, with became their very first luxury division
- Beginning of the 1990s: Toyota began to produce larger vehicles to go along with their smaller ones
- 1997: The world’s best selling hybrid car, the Prius, was introduced.
- 1999: Listed on the New York Stock Exchange
- 2002: Toyota joined into Formula One racing
- 2006: 8th largest company be revenue
- 2007: First quarter, world’s largest automobile company, be revenue
Toyota has really been a popular car. This is because they have been so eco-friendly, and they have never been known for their massive vehicles.
