Dodge is a famous brand name in the automobile industry and his its roots way back in the beginning of the 20th century. In 1902 the Dodge brothers helped Henry Ford finance his company, Ford Motor Company. From 1902-1913 Ford’s running gears were built by Dodge. In 1914 they created the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicles Company. They started to manufacture trucks as well, which they are now most famous for. In 1925 the Dodge brothers sold their company to Dillion, Read and Company for what was, at the time, the largest cash transaction in history. A few years later, in 1928, Dillion, Read and Company sold dodge to Chrysler.
Models
Dodge has made a variety of unique cars over the course of their history. They are most well known for their manufacturing of trucks. In 1981 Dodge introduced their most famous product, the Dodge Ram. The Dodge Ram was a pickup truck with real and four wheel drive, and was twice named Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year. Dodge also got into military truck manufacturing, a great deal of it took place in the mid 1940s during World War II. They have since produced over 80 different types of Dodge truck models for the United States Military.
Although Dodge has made a number of other automobiles it is primarily known for their trucks. As of 2005 their trucks accounted for 78% of their total revenue. They have since introduced the Dodge Charger in hopes of shifting some of their focus away from the Dodge Ram and other trucks they produce. The Dodge Charger is a smaller, faster car that is often used by police forces and race car drivers. Another popular non-truck produced by Dodge is the Dodge Neon.
Logos
While the Dodge Ram is the most identifiable logo associated with Dodge, the Ram only appeared on Dodge trucks from the creation of the Dodge Ram until 1996. With the success of the truck the Ram symbol became so popular that after 1996 the Ram started to appear on every Dodge vehicle. Other Dodge logos, now discontinued, have included the Fratzog and the Pentastar.
