The following is a brief history of Audi, and what their company is all about. If you like learning about cars, hopefully you find interesting. The Early Audi
Audi: “Advancement Through Technology.” That is their slogan, and they always want to be the ones who have the super technology, and major advancement. They are a German auto manufacturer. They trace their roots back to 1899. August Horch began a company, and produced his first automobile in 1901. This was great move for him, except for one fact. He was forced out of the company he founded, and put his hard work into in 1909.
So in 1910, Horch took his Horch brand and founded the Audi Company. But right away he was sued for trademark infringement. Because the Horch brand was already a part of one company, he was denied use of his family name in automobiles. They decided upon the name Audi. Horch in German means “hark,” and in Latin the word Audi is translated to mean “hark.” This was done as a way to get back at the original company, and still use some form of the name.
Audi prided itself on being a great luxurious car equipped with an all new style of bodywork. They also launched great cars with eight cylinder engines in 1929. These cars were called the Audi Zwickau and the Audi Dresden. This came only five years after the first six cylinder model they created. In 1964, the Volkswagen Group took over. They own 99.7% of the original Audi Company.
Racing and Audi
Audi loves to race its cars. Whether it is Europe or the United States you will see an Audi in many different forms of racing. Sports car racing is no stranger to Audi. In 1999, they raced in their first 24 hour of Le Mans. They also compete in touring cars, and rally cars. They began rally car racing in the 1980 year, and continued to dominate that sport consistently for the following 6 years.
Audi is a great German automobile who is respected world wide. They are designed as a great race car, with equally great luxury and comfort. It is no shock that they have withstood great competition and continue to make automobiles to this day. If you are a fan of German engineering, that you will love an Audi. Even if you are just a fan of automobiles in general, the Audi may be the right car for you.
