The car I associate myself with the most is Ford. The only car I have ever driven is a Ford Taurus. In fact, I have driven four different ones at some point. My parent’s have had an Explorer and an Expedition. My two brothers have each driven a Taurus or two. As you can see this is the model of choice in my family. Everybody knows that there will be at least three Fords in the garage at some point that is just how it has been. However, just because I keep driving this automobile does not mean that there is not a Ford I wished I owned. There is one Ford that I have always wanted to own, because it is such a great car. My friends and I would sit around and dream about each owning one, and riding it around. That car is the…
1969 Ford Mustang
I do not know why I picked this year when I was younger. Maybe it is just because my two friends and I talked to this car up so much when we were younger that it became the ultimate automobile. I had one friend who actually restored one, and needless to say, it turned out amazing. Maybe it was also the fact that this car came from 1969, and in our minds that was quite a long time ago. Now, getting older I realize that that is not old, and far from the oldest model Ford ever had, but this is still the car I want to own. Maybe all the years of driving newer Fords have made me appreciate what Ford had done in the past. I also think that the design of the original Mustang from about 1965-1969 is so incredible. You can tell they are timeless because Ford is bringing that style back and incorporating it into their newer Mustang look. Maybe the 1969 Mustang was ahead of its time. I think it would be great to own one of the new Mustangs that look like it, but I’d still take the original.
How I Would Restore It
The first thing I would do is try to keep everything about the 1969 Mustang as original as possible. I think this is an obvious first step anytime you want to restore a classic. The original radio would even be cool, although it is not as enhanced as today’s radio. I think it would be cheapening the car if you restored it but gave it all new parts. I want to feel like I’m actually riding around in the late 1960s. I would not even worry about getting this car ready for car shows, because it would just be mine. Under the hood you would bet that I would try to make everything as similar to what they produced in the late 1960s. Hopefully I would be able to find everything, because that would be amazing. In the end I would step back and make sure that the car has a nice fresh batch of blue paint on it. I’ve never been a large fan of red. Just give me some blue and I would ride happily off into the sunset. That is why I would love to own a 1969 Ford Mustang. Not only is it an amazing car, but it would also fulfill a young boy’s dream. Nothing gets any better then that.
